I recently was working on a project where one of the programmers involved didn’t seem to have the slightest understanding of the client, or what they did, in the slightest.
Big deal, it’s only a programmer. All he has to do is write the code that he’s told to write.

Ah, but it’s not so simple as that.
In fact, I can’t remember a single project that I’ve worked on that I didn’t benefit greatly from understanding what we were building, and how it fit into the client’s realm.
Even the earliest projects that I was involved in, as an entry-level programmer.
